We are delighted to present a three-day weekend break to the Highlands of Scotland at this most dramatic and beautiful time of year – The journey is over the world-famous West Highland line, featuring some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland as we cross magnificent bridges and viaducts travelling high into the mountains offering views of tumbling waterfalls and peaceful lochs.

Hotels: No overnight accommodation is included allowing you the freedom and flexibility to arrange your own hotels in Oban. For further advice and a list of recommended hotels please email our office.

Mobility: This tour is not suitable for guests requiring the use of a wheelchair or with severe mobility issues as the platforms at some remote stations in the highlands are much shorter than our train, low, or accessible only by a footbridge or steps.

There is the Distillery with excellent visitor tours or perhaps wander along the seafront to the ruined Dunollie Castle or climb McCaig’s Tower which dominates the skyline.

Our train travels north through the Scottish Lowlands, thence to Glasgow and along the banks of the river Clyde, where we join the scenic and spectacular West Highland line. Passing Loch Long and Loch Lomond we climb high into the mountains for a memorable journey as we pass along tranquil Loch Awe and through the Pass of Brander to Oban with an arrival around 20.30 for a two-night stay

The day is at leisure to discover Oban. With magnificent views across the bay to the islands of the Inner Hebrides, it has become a magnet for tourists and is known as the holiday capital of the Highlands and seafood capital of Scotland. There is the Distillery with excellent visitor tours or perhaps wander along the seafront to the ruined Dunollie Castle or climb McCaig’s Tower which dominates the skyline. Or take the popular Caledonian MacBrayne ferry across to the Isle of Mull.

Departing Oban around 09.00 we travel past Loch Awe and imposing Kilchurn Castle. Continuing homeward through Crianlarich and past Loch Lomond.

THE EXPERIENCE – The ultimate indulgence. Our Pullman Dining Class provides for a truly authentic experience of luxury rail travel combining the opulence and comfort of beautifully presented and restored carriages, married with a unique culinary encounter influenced by the regions we travel through on our journeys. All paired with fine wines, enticing beverages and impeccabile service delivered by professional and dedicated liveried Stewards, Chefs and onboard management.

THE CARRIAGES – Seating is arranged at tables of 4 or 2, laid with crisp linen and fully dressed in fine crockery, fresh flowers, and glassware. Wide comfortable seats with enhanced legroom and panoramic windows through which to view the ever changing landscapes and magnificent coastlines Britain has to offer.

DINING – Saturday– The day starts as you settle into your seat with a glass of chilled bucks’ fizz, followed by a full English breakfast. A light Luncheon will be served in the very early afternoon. Prior to arrival in to Oban, commencing with a glass of Champagne, a four course Dinner accompanied with a half bottle of wine per person will be served. Monday – One of the highlights of the onboard dining experience will be the service of our Executive Chefs signature seven course ‘Taste of Scotland Luncheon’ (see sample menu), commencing with  a refreshing glass of chilled champagne and selection of canapés as you relax in anticipation of the gastronomic journey ahead, accompanied by our Sommelier’s choice of a half bottle of wine per person (see sample wine list). The memorable journey concludes with a service of coffee and homemade petits fours.

SEATING SUPPLEMENTS – Seating at a private window table for two is available at a supplement of £120 per person or £300 per person at a larger and more spacious ‘Superior‘ private window table for two  

Bookings for parties of three passengers are accommodated at an ‘exclusive table for three’ with the fourth seat being unoccupied for your added privacy. A total supplement of £310 is applicable for this seating type.

COMFORT – Seating is at tables of 4 or 2. First Class offers a journey into a bygone era aboard elegantly restored carriages, with wide seats, additional leg room and panoramic windows allowing you to enjoy glorious vistas in effortless comfort.

HOSPITALITY – Complimentary tea/coffee and light snacks are included with an at seat service. You may also bring on board your own picnic hamper and drinks for consumption during the journey if you wish.

Additional drinks and snacks may be purchased to enjoy at your seat (see sample buffet menu). There is also the option to add a ‘Traditional Afternoon Tea‘ to your booking (supplement applies) for an extra touch of indulgence. This can be chosen during the online booking process.
